2010 Recap - MSBL & MABL
Oct 26, 2010, 1:41 pm

2010 NM MSBL Overview and Playoffs (as told by Vince Overfelt, League President and Colt 45s Manager)

Led by the hitting of Steve Konst, Tom Parker, Carlos Ramos, Cory McCallum, Kevin Kubic (led team in doubles) as well as Kelly Becker, Eric Espinda, Scott Bryan, Pete David, and Paul Musante, the 2010 Colt 45's ran off to a 15-4 record in league play, finishing off in 2nd place to the ABQMSBL Cyclones, managed by Darrell Creel (husband of league treasurer Paula Creel) The Cyclones finished their regular season with an 18-1 record. The two teams then met in the finals of the  of the end of season tournament with the 45's defeating the Cyclones and moving on to the final.

Other major contributors to the 45's season were Brandin Baca, T-Bone Vaughn, Rob and Cole Arseneau, Doug Ledbetter, Jimmy DeFillippo and Eric Simms. A special note to Mitchell Parker, best foul ball shagger in the NM-MSBL.

Seeded 2nd in the end of season playoff, the Colt 45's defeated the Marlins and the Desperados (on an 8th innnig two run home run by Steve Konst). In the finals of the winners bracket the Colt 45's defeated the one seed Cyclones.  After the Hurricanes won the losers bracket this set up the championship game with the Colt 45's.  In that game Carlos Ramos pitched 5 great inning with Tom Parker finishing this game..Final score 18-4.  It was a team victory with everyone of the Colt 45's contributing in their own special way. Great season by all.

2010 NM MABL Champions – NM Expos (as told by Frank Martinez, Expos Manager)

Entering the 2010 season, the NM Expos had high expectations after coming off a disappointing 2009 campaign which produced a Casey Classic Tournament championship, best overall record in the league and a #1 seed entering the playoffs. Once again the NM Expos were rewarded the #1 seed in the 2010 playoffs for having the best overall record. The Expos had a lot of doubters and proved they were championship quality after winning the 2010 ABQ MSBL Championship. The Expos also want to congratulate the NM Brewers for a good season and hard fought championship game.

2010 NM MABL Overview (as told by Chris Maxwell, League Secretary)

In the most balanced season ever by NM MABL standards (9 of the 10 teams won 7+ games) the league saw a first time champion in the Expos. There were 7 teams that had a legitimate shot at winning the title and the road to the championships was not an easy one.

The theme of the year in MLB was pitching and that remained a constant all the way to the NM MABL – Rodney Tafoya (Brewers) won his 250th career game, Matt Martinez (Tigers) had 20Ks and 17Ks in consecutive games and three games saw no hitters broken up in the 7th inning. On a side note, the Capital City Bombers did have 3 players hit for the cycle in one game mid-season.

Newcomers to the league, the Hoyas and Angels won a combined 9 games and created a stir in the league that saw fresh blood for the first time in 3 seasons. The Bluejays, Cubs and Tigers took their respective places in the bottom of the standings only to see all three teams go on late season runs (including deep into the playoffs). The Bluejays finished the season in 5th place overall (including playoffs), the Cubs finished 4th and the Tigers set a team high for wins with 9 overall. Perennial powers Bombers, Athletics (2009 champs) and Cardinals finished 3, 4, and 5 during the regular season but their runs would not continue as the Expos (1st) and Brewers (2nd) proved to be too strong. A solid pitching performance by Jacob Pacheco pushed the Expos to the championship over Chad Cooper’s Albuquerque Brewers.
